Wake Forest Fire Department Announces New
Numbering Scheme
Department Prepares for Growth With Emphasis on
Safety
WAKE FOREST - The Wake Forest
Fire Department in northern Wake County has announced that the
department will implement a new numbering scheme for their
stations, officers and apparatus. The new system is expected
to be fully operational by September 25th.
The plan was presented to officers this week and volunteer
members Thursday night.
"The new plan went over well, after it was all explained,"
said Fire Chief Jerry Swift. "We're all looking forward to
it."
"We are going to gradually work our way into the new system,
so that everyone gets used to it," according to Swift. The
Chief acknowledged that it will also be a big change for
telecommunicators at 911.
"Starting today, Chief officers will begin utilizing their new
number on the fireground channels. Next week, our other
officers will begin utilizing their new numbers. This should
give the Communications Center time to absorb the new
process."
The department considered several numbering schemes, but
eventually settled on one that would incorporate their long
term growth.
