Memorial Dedication and First Annual
Memorial Service Honoring North Carolina's Fallen Firefighters
This page will be updated as
additional information becomes available.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
CONCERNING PARADE:
Be advised that the parade scheduled for May 6 is NOT OPEN to
any non-LODD department, and all participants have been invited
directly by the NCFFF.
The parade for this first year is being restricted to only departments
that have experienced a line of duty death. All departments
that are on the official NCFFF LODD list have been contacted
directly about participating in the parade.
Apparatus that shows up and is not on the list will be sent to
the post-parade staging area and will not be allowed to
participate in the procession. These measures were deemed
necessary to make sure that the emphasis is on departments
that have experienced a LODD.
Please show your support by attending the parade as a
spectator and participating in the other scheduled activities.
Thank you. |

RALEIGH
-
On Saturday,
May 6, 2006, the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NCFFF)
will proudly unveil and dedicate the North Carolina Fallen
Firefighter Memorial.
The celebratory Dedication will be immediately followed by the
more reflective service of remembrance in our states First Annual
NC Fallen Firefighters (LODD) Memorial Service which will include
a Roll Call of all firefighters who have fallen in the
line-of-duty in our state with appropriate recognition of the
survivors and family members.
The first Saturday of May was selected by the Foundation to
coincide with the special week previously identified as North
Carolina Fallen Firefighters Week by Governor Jim Hunt a few
years ago.
This special
day will begin with a 9:00 AM Firefighters Parade in downtown
Raleigh followed by the 2:00 PM Dedication and the 3:00 PM
Memorial Service.
The afternoon will continue with an informal time for families and
friends to visit the Memorial Grounds and Sculpture under a
continued guard of 10 or more statewide firefighter honor guard
units out of respect and honor of our Heroes and their families.
The days events will conclude with a 7:00 PM Candlelight Vigil
and the Lighting of the Memorial.
The day will be a most historic time in the life of our state
firefighters and their families and will be remembered for years
to come. We know our states children and their childrens
children will return to this hallowed place for centuries to come
to be reminded of the dedication firefighters give to protect them
and their families.
The Foundation
is most fortunate to honor these dedicated emergency workers by
the placement of this bronzed sculptured life-sized Memorial with
the displayed names of all NC Fallen Heroes in the center of this
historic park and across from the Capital City Central Fire
Station.
We encourage you to visit the NCFFF site for additional
information.
FireNews.net will offer extensive coverage of this historic event.
