Volunteer Firefighter Dies in Crash

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY - Volunteer Firefighter Paul Lewis Ellington, age 36, died January 1, 2008 at the scene of a single vehicle collision while he was responding to a reported structure fire with possible trapped victims.

Initial reports indicate that speed was a factor in the collision. Ellington was apparently not wearing a seat belt. He was ejected from his vehicle.

Ellington was honored as the Oregon Hill 2003 Firefighter of the Year. His father was an original member of the department.

The arrangements are as follows:

Visitation will be Thursday, January 3 at the Wilkerson Funeral Home, 1909 Richardson Drive, Reidsville, from 1800 to 2100 hours.
