HIGH POINT - The High Point Fire
Department has received a new custom built all aluminum 24' long x
8'-6" wide pontoon watercraft built by
Clark Boats
in Bellevue, Iowa. Clark specializes in custom heavy duty boats,
barges and ships. This unit features a 115 hp two stroke Mercury
outboard motor, cantilever canopy, non-skid flooring, 40" high
aluminum rails, a 2000 watt Honda generator and a custom built Clark
tandem axle trailer.
The craft features a lifting winch mounted on the bow with a lifting
capacity of 750 pounds which could be used to lift a loaded stokes
basket or other heavy items. The boat has a rated payload of 4000#.
It was built in seventy days and was test on the Mississippi River.
The unit will be used mainly for Dive Rescue activities. The Dive
Team is in the process of deciding on the layout for the dive gears.
Plans are to have scuba gear mounted and ready for fast donning in
order to execute a rapid rescue effort. The funds for the purchase
of this boat came from the Deep River Fire Department Association.
