Drill at Blue Rhino

YADKIN COUNTY - In September, the West Yadkin Fire Department simulated a
fire at the bulk storage area at the Blue Rhino / Ferrell Gas
Company in Hamptonville. The goal was to keep a continuous flow on
the tanks with two ladder trucks, engines and ground monitors. Units
utilized dry hydrants from a nearby business. Additional departments
that participated included Boonville, Arlington, Union Grove and
Yadkinville.

Kernersville MVC With Entrapment

KERNERSVILLE - Kernersville Engine 43 was dispatched to a vehicle
accident with injuries on September 12th. Upon arrival they reported
a multiple pin-in and requested Squad 41 for assistance. E-41 and an
additional EMS unit were dispatched as well.
Multiple tools were used to accomplish extrication on both vehicles
involved. Three patients were transported to North Carolina Baptist
Hospital via FCEMS.

RALEIGH -
The Raleigh Fire Department, Wake County EMS,
and Hardin Construction partnered at a unique training session in
downtown Raleigh on Saturday, September 22. Members of NC Urban
Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Force 8 and Wake County EMS Hazardous
Materials / Medical Emergency Rescue (HAMMER) participated in pair
of drills at the 33-story RBC Plaza under construction on Martin
Street between Fayetteville and Wilmington streets.
Pictured is the first exercise that lowered a 170-pound dummy from
the 18th floor. Responders navigated up a material hoist, stairs and
ladders to reach the victim. The mock patient was stabilized,
prepared, packaged, and then removed using a tower crane.

JOHNSTON COUNTY - Record settings temperatures for December should
remind us that bad weather can strike at almost any time in North
Carolina. These clouds spawned a tornado in Johnston County during
September.
