Head-on Collision

IRON STATION - The Denver Fire
Department's Kidville sub-station and Station 1 responded to a
head-on collision on Ingleside Farm Road. There were two vehicles
involved; each vehicle had one occupant, and both had to be cut
from their vehicles.
“This accident reaffirms for us how important it was to have our sub-stations built,” Chief Flynn said. “The
improved response times and additional manpower have been a
definite asset for our community.”
Both drivers were alert and talking when they
were transported to
Carolina’s
Medical
Center.

Clayton Fire Donates to the American Red Cross

CLAYTON -
Clayton Fire
Marshal Tony Atkinson is shown presenting a check for $500 to Red
Cross Director Donna Whitman on behalf of the Clayton Fire
Department.
"It is an honor to assist the fire department as they help the
citizens of Clayton and Johnston County. We ask that they call us
whenever they need us and we will be there" said Whitman. Each year,
the American Red Cross responds immediately to more than 70,000
disasters, including house fires (the majority of disaster
responses), hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous
materials spills, transportation accidents, explosions, and other
natural and man-made disasters.
The Johnston County Red Cross recently assisted a family of seven
that lost their home due to fire. All American Red Cross disaster
assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and
money from the American people.

HOT SHOT
Double Fatal Crash

HAYWOOD COUNTY - On November 11th,
a Florida couple died while traveling west on the Great Smokey
Mountain Expressway near Balsam Road. The driver crossed the center
barrier and the car was then struck by an eastbound tractor-trailer.
The car was cut in half. The big truck left the roadway and traveled
over 400 feet down an embankment and into a field before coming to
rest with the front of the truck over the edge of Richland Creek.
Emergency Management was on scene to control the minor oil spill.
The truck driver was taken to Haywood Regional Medical Center by
Emergency Services with minor injuries. Saunook Fire and First
Responders were on scene as well as the Department of
Transportation to control traffic.

Instructor Dennis Rubin (Chief,
Washington DC Fire-EMS Department) presents on the topic of Crew
Resource Management to participants of UNC Charlotte’s 2007-2008
Fire & Rescue Management Institute. The Institute had forty-one
participants (maximum enrollment) representing fire and rescue
organizations from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The
2007-2008 Institute began October 16, 2007. Look for this important
program in 2008.
