HOT SHOT
Fatal Johnston County MVC
SAT NOV 24
SUBMITTED BY CARTER RABIL, CFP-7322
JOHNSTON COUNTY -
Thanksgiving and
Antioch Fire responded to a small routine woods fire early Monday
and found a fully engulfed van that had struck a tree. Firefighters
quickly knocked down the blaze and cleared the tree with chain saws.
The lone occupant was a Smithfield teen - bringing the Johnston
County teen motor vehicle death toll to 10 thus far in 2007.
Because the tag and VIN plate was destroyed by the inferno DMV was
called in to identify the van by reading the serial number on the
frame. NCSHP has been campaigning across the area to try to reduce
teen fatalities on the roadways. Since Johnston is currently leading
the state in teen fatalities, Johnston Sheriff Steve Bizzell has
outfitted several cruisers with radar and deputies patrol roads
near area high schools to curb speeds.
