LENOIR COUNTY - An investigation
into an early morning fatal wreck is underway in Lenoir County.
At approximately 0500 hours, a Lenoir County deputy was
traveling along Highway 70, near the Neuse River Bridge, when he
notice a large field of debris covering the roadway.
Upon further investigation the deputy noticed three people
climbing up a roadside embankment. North Lenoir Fire and Rescue
arrived to find an older model GMC SUV, approximately thirty
feet down an embankment, with one passenger still entrapped.
This patient was pronounced dead on the scene by Lenoir County
paramedics.
Rescue crews waited for NCSHP to investigate before extricating
the victim. A low angle haul system was set up to assist in
lifting. Three other passengers sustained only minor
injuries and were treated and released on scene. Eastbound lanes
of Hwy 70 were blocked for close to three hours during the
incident.

GOLDSBORO -
The Goldsboro
Fire Department is operating a Fire Prevention store in the
Berkley Mall from Oct 7th to Oct 15th.
There are giveaways everyday which include everything from smoke
alarms to brochures. This is the 7th year that the
store has been in operation which on average reaches about 2,000
people.
The opening day was started outside in the parking lot with fire
trucks on display from around Wayne County along with various
demonstrations. Special thanks goes out to the Goldsboro Fire
Department Fire Prevention Committee for planning this great
fire prevention event.
