RALEIGH - The newest members of the Raleigh Fire Department started their education last week at the Keeter Training Center. Thirty-one recruits will spend the next 24 weeks engaged in classes including fire suppression and emergency medical services. The graduates will help fill 15 new positions to staff Station 28 on Forestville Road, planned for opening in 2007. Upon graduation, the new firefighters will be state-certified as Emergency Medical Technician and Firefighter II. The recruit class is the Raleigh Fire Department's 33rd fire academy.
 

Shalotte Fire Department to Participate in National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service

SHALOTTE - On October 8th the Shallotte Fire Department will participate in the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland. This will be a first time attending this event for the Town of Shallotte.

Fire Chief Paul Dunwell has been very involved with programs to assist North Carolina's fallen since 2000 when he founded, with the assistance of Sherri Deroche, Allen Monds, Chris Atkins, Shawn Savage and Gene Moore, the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

This past May the North Carolina's firefighters unveiled their tribute to 163 of our fallen comrades. The North Carolina Fallen Firefighter's Memorial is located in the City of Raleigh in historic Nash Square across from Raleigh's busy Central Fire Station.

This October 8th, the Nation will recognize 107 of our Nation's Fallen Firefighters. More than 3 will be from North Carolina. For more information go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation website  or to the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation website.
 

 
Fire Destroys Dare Restaurant

DARE COUNTY - The Nags Head Fire Department responded to a fire at the Outer Banx Steak House at 1355 on Sept 24. The restaurant was not in operation at the time and there were no injuries. Kevin Zorc, Fire Marshal of the Town of Nags Head, said that the fire started underneath the deck of the restaurant.
