Lee Wilson's Yellow North Carolina Fire Apparatus Galleries
MON SEP 26
PHOTOS BY LEE WILSON, CFP-702
RALEIGH - Shown above are three
classic North Carolina fire trucks. First is Charlotte's last
tiller assigned to Ladder 4, a 1973 Ward LaFrance. Next is a
Winston-Salem engine assigned to Engine 12. This 1974 Ward
LaFrance Ambassador changed it all in regards to styling and the
concept of "lime-yellow" apparatus.
Greensboro's yellow rigs were always a little more "safety yellow"
in regards to color. Shown here is Truck 10, a 1975 American
LaFrance rear mount.
Lee's
flickr site has recently posted galleries of the yellow rigs
from these three cities. The Charlotte and Winston rigs begin on
page 4 of the site. Durham, Fayetteville and Wilson also made a
temporary switch to yellow trucks in the 1970's.
