Firefighter Struck By Car

BLADEN COUNTY - The Bladen County Fire Marshal is reporting
today that Tarheel Firefighter Ronald Allen, Jr. was struck and
killed by a motorist this morning while performing hydrant
maintenance.
Arrangements have now been posted.

Dare County Chief Dies After Battle
With Cancer

MANTEO - Roanoke Island Fire Chief Eddie Bliven passed away Friday
morning after an extended battle with cancer. Arrangements are as
follows:
Visitation Sunday, September 24 from 1900-2100 hours at Twiford
Funeral Home, Manteo. Funeral Monday, September 25 at 1100 hours at
the First Assembly of God Church on Wingina Avenue, Manteo.

NASH COUNTY - On Saturday, September
14, departments from eleven counties met in Nashville for the 4th
Annual Fireman's Day. Several competitions were held and various
trophies awarded to departments.

to make sure all North Carolina firefighters are covered in the
unfortunate event of an injury or death, the North Carolina
State Firemen's Association has placed a list of all non-member
departments on their website.
We encourage all firefighters to visit the list. If you find
that your department is listed, encourage your Chief officers
and Board of Directors to address the situation immediately.
FireNews.net is committed to assisting the NCSFA in it's goal of
100% membership across the state.

IREDELL COUNTY - Two motorcycles
collided on September 8 on U.S. Highway 70 near Sharon School
Road. One subject was seriously injured and flown out by
MedCenter Air. West Iredell Fire, Iredell EMS and Iredell Rescue
responded. Catawba Station 8 established the Landing Zone.

NASHVILLE - At 0212 Saturday
morning, Nashville Fire responded to a structure fire at 417
Baker Street. Engine 14 arrived to find a one-story brick
dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the attic. The fire then
vented through the rear roof. A kitchen fire was quickly
extinguished. The lone occupant self-evacuated when alerted by
the smoke detector. Nashville was assisted by Coopers Fire and
Nash County EMS.

CHERRYVILLE - The fall meeting of the National Volunteer Fire
Council will be October 17-21, 2006. At this meeting, a strategic
master plan will be developed to guide the council's direction for
the next several years. Fire departments are requested to send their
top five major concerns relating to issues they would like to see
included in the strategic plan. The information is requested prior
to Friday, October 6.
