GASTON COUNTY -
On September 13, the Agriculture Center Fire
Department was dispatched to a routine motor vehicle collision on
U.S. Highway 321. While operating at the crash, a motorist
traveling northbound slammed into the back of the ACFD rescue
truck. Fortunately, no firefighters were in or behind the truck.
As a reminder to all emergency personnel: stay between your
emergency vehicle and the incident to shield yourself from passing
traffic.

In an effort
to make sure all North Carolina firefighters are covered in the
unfortunate event of an injury or death, the North Carolina
State Firemen's Association has placed a list of all non-member
departments on their website.
We encourage all firefighters to visit the list. If you find
that your department is listed, encourage your Chief officers
and Board of Directors to address the situation immediately.
FireNews.net is committed to assisting the NCSFA in it's goal of
100% membership across the state.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - A train collided
with the rear of a tractor-trailer on Monday afternoon, sending
a thunderous boom throughout downtown Kings Mountain. The
intersection was signed that no trucks were allowed at the
crossing. The driver was unfamiliar with the area and had been
given wrong directions.
The crash cut open the back end of the truck, sending 100 to 150
car batteries into the air. There were no serious injuries in
the crash. The train engineer suffered minor burns after being
sprayed with battery acid.

HAYWOOD COUNTY - A truck driver
started this 1995 Peterbilt and left it running for a few
minutes. When he returned a short time later, the truck was
engulfed. Junaluska Fire responded but was unable to save the
vehicle. There were no injuries.

KNIGHTDALE PUBLIC SAFETY
KNIGHTDALE - Knightdale Public Safety's Police and Fire Divisions
along with Eastern Wake EMS will officially open the new Public
Safety Center in Knightdale on Friday, October 6 from 1600 to 1800
hours. Knightdale Fire Commander Tim Guffey, Police Chief Ricky Pope
along with local, county and state officials will be on hand for the
dedication (fire hose cutting ceremony) starting at 1700. Tours of
the facility will start at 1600.
The facility is located on Steeple Square Court. The 20,000+ square
foot facility includes two triple-length apparatus bays and two
single-length bays. The center was converted from a flex office
building.
