CHARLOTTE - The Fire and Safety Technologists at UNCC prepared a
25 foot "Thin Red Line" banner as well as several descriptive
posters in recognition of the sixth anniversary of September
11th.

Kernersville Gas Line Fire

KERNERSVILLE - On Tuesday afternoon,
Kernersville Engines 44 and 42 were dispatched to a haz-mat fire at
a house under construction. Engine 44 arrived and confirmed a fire
involving a cut natural gas line. Additional units were requested
due to high heat conditions. Units protected exposures until the gas
company could secure the line.

RALEIGH - Extra resources arrive to
help exhausted firefighters battle a recent fire just south of
Crabtree Valley Mall. Extra fire and EMS resources were called to
fight the fire and the heat. Raleigh has set numerous weather
records this summer.

September 11th Ceremony and Station Dedication

GASTONIA - The Gastonia Fire
Department held a 9-11 ceremony and station dedication Tuesday,
September 11, at Fire Station 4. The event included placing a wreath
at the Wall of Honor and Remembrance by Gastonia City Police and
Fire Department Honor Guards as well as a bagpipe solo by Captain
Tony Clanton. Gastonia Fire Station # 4 was dedicated in honor of
John Stepp, the only Gastonia Firefighter to die in the line of
duty. John Stepp died in 1980 of a heart attack at a structure fire.

Johnston County Structure Fire

BENSON - When firefighters from Benson,
Elevation and Four Oaks arrived at this house fire, fire was showing
near the attic and eaves. According to Benson Assistant Chief
Anthony Byrd, the fire was quickly controlled. The fire started when
children playing with matches ignited pine straw and the fire
communicated to the siding and eventually the roof. The Red Cross
assisted two displaced families.

Dies Returning to Station

CASWELL COUNTY - Captain Michael Dean Stanfield, 35, a twelve
year firefighting veteran with the Anderson Township Volunteer
Fire Department died Sunday, September 9, 2007.
Arrangements have now been posted. |
