FEATURED SHOT
WED SEP 06
SUBMITTED BY ASSISTANT CHIEF GLENN RAINEY, COLINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT
KILL DEVIL HILLS - The Colington
Volunteer Fire Department took delivery of a set of hydraulic
rescue tools on Tuesday night. Previously firefighters from Kill
Devil Hills Fire Department were called to perform rescue duty.
According to Colington Fire Chief Kim Piddington, the tools were
obtained at no cost through a grant from the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security’s Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance
Program (CEDAP).
“We were very lucky to receive this grant. There is about
$20,000 worth of equipment here.” said Piddington. “There were
only 8 sets awarded by CEDAP in North Carolina.” The Amkus brand
tools were delivered to the department by a representative from
local distributor C.W. Williams of Rocky Mount. “Colington Fire
Department has been very fortunate in receiving federal grants
for many needed items that ultimately help us help the
community.” Piddington added. “We are always researching grant
opportunities.” The department will soon begin extensive
training on extricating patients from different situations prior
to placing the equipment in service.
