Vacant House Fire in East Durham

DURHAM - Engine Company 3 arrived to
find heavy fire showing from a two story wood frame vacant house at
1907 Ashe Street yesterday. One firefighter was transported with
minor injuries. Units responding were: BC1, BC3, E4, E1, E3, L1, L2,
Sq4, MS1 and FD5.

Lumber Yard Fire

BLADEN COUNTY - More than one-hundred
firefighters responded to this fire at the lumber yard in Turnbull
Creek. Due to quick actions by firefighters, some of the buildings
and several stacks of lumber were saved.

Old Rescue Becomes Fleet Services Unit

RALEIGH - You know your fire department is
getting large when you have your own "FLEET SERVICES" unit. This
former Raleigh rescue has been converted by the shops. It was one of
two of the last units that were designed to serve as backup
transport units. Note that the warning lights have been changed out
to amber. The other unit currently serves as a reserve Rescue unit.
The 2000 American LaFrance Freightliner Medic Master units served at
Rescues 14 and 19. The second photo shows the new Rescues for 14 and
19: 2007 Pierce Enforcers that were delivered on June 14.

Old Landfill Fire May Burn for Days

GUILFORD COUNTY - Four acres of a
decommissioned landfill in southeastern Guilford County may continue
burning for days, officials said. Firefighters brought the fire at
the Wild Turkey Road Landfill under control Tuesday afternoon and
cleared an 8- foot-wide swath around it to keep it from spreading.

City of Raleigh Releases Report on Massive Townhome Blaze

RALEIGH - The City of Raleigh has released the results of a special
study in the wake of a wind fed fire in February that destroyed
thirty-two buildings in North Raleigh.
The extensive report looks at building codes, weather conditions,
landscaping and the fire department response.
