JOHNSTON COUNTY - Kenly, Princeton and Micro firefighters battled fire and rain this morning when four tobacco barns went up in smoke during Tropical Storm Ernesto's arrival. A 5,000 gallon fuel tank was adjacent to one barn but firefighters prevented any extension. Kittens that resided near the fire were also saved.

CONCORD - Oops. The foam system at Hangar "H" (for Hendrick Motor Sports) at Concord Regional Airport malfunctioned Tuesday and dumped 500 gallons of foam concentrate and hundreds of gallons of water into the hangar.

LINCOLN COUNTY - On Aug 30th at approximately 0530 hours, Boger City Fire in Lincoln County was dispatched to a vehicle accident with fire involved on Highway 27 East near Sunny Hill Drive. Engine 42, Engine 41 and Rescue 46 responded on the initial alarm. Engine 42 arrived on the scene within three minutes to report a fully involved fuel tanker. A second alarm which included Lincolnton and Alexis fire departments was dispatched.

The driver of the tanker was out of the vehicle when rescue crews arrived, he was transported to a local emergency room. It took attack crews approximately one and a half hours to control the fire with foam applications. The tanker was loaded with 9200 gallons of gasoline. Neighbors from miles around felt the initial explosions. Due to the tanker hitting several major power lines, approximately 962 residents were without power most of the day.

The driver's conditions were still unknown at time of report. Assisting agencies included Lincolnton FD, Alexis FD, Pumpkin Center FD, North 321 FD, Lincoln County Emergency Management, Lincoln County Fire Marshal's Office, Lincolnton Police, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, NC State DOT, NC State Highway Patrol, Lincoln County EMS, Red Cross, and Hepaco.

RALEIGH - Raleigh Fire called for a second alarm at this well involved house (left in photo) on August 14. The house fire on Midway Park Court endangered the "B" and "D" exposures, melting siding on both houses. Several Garner EMS units assisted during the hot afternoon fire.
