Hottest Month Ever Thankfully Comes to a Close

WAKE COUNTY - Many weather records were
set this month as the drought wore on and the thermometer continued
to rise. It was above 90 degrees in Wake County this month every day
except for two. In the photos above, northern Wake firefighters
battle fire in numerous homes on August 21, but the toughest
opponent was the 105 degree temperature. Rehab was the order of the
day.

Robeson County Wildfires

ROBESON COUNTY - During the last several
weeks, high heat and dry conditions have led to numerous serious
wildland fires in the Robeson County area. Equipment and personnel
from around the state were mobilized to combat the numerous fires.
The photos above show crews working the fires from above and on the
ground.

Troopers Blame Serious Crash on Cell Phone

JOHNSTON COUNTY - Micro and Pine Level Fire
Departments responded to a head-on collision that critically injured
three. Two were air-lifted from the scene via UNC Tar Heel 1 and 2.
North Johnston EMS transported one to JMH. The road was closed for
nearly 90 minutes as firefighters extricated the two entrapped
motorists.
