PENDER COUNTY - This crash occurred
on August 22 on Highway 17 in Hampstead. The cars collided at a
high rate of speed head-on. One person was pinned, one other
injured. One patient was transported by AirLink. Units on scene
were Sloop Point, Hampstead, AirLink, Pender EMS and Pender
Rescue 1.

BURKE COUNTY - George Hildebran
Fire Rescue responded to this structure fire on Highway 18 South
on August 22. Automatic aid was dispatched from Salem and Enola.
Engine 731 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions at a metal
fabrication business. Several welding cylinders vented as crews
attacked the fire. The cause was related to welding.

KERNERSVILLE - One person not
wearing a seat belt died as a result of injuries sustained in
this collision on August 24. Kernersville Engines 42, 44 and
Squad 41 responded.

CHINQUAPIN - Five patients
including three adults and two children were injured in this
head-on crash last Tuesday less than one mile from the
Chinquapin fire station. CFD was assisted by Northeast and
Beulaville fire departments. One patient was entrapped and was
removed within thirty minutes.

2 Year-Old Rescued Fire

DURHAM - A firefighter from Engine 1 was able to rescue a child
from an apartment fire Saturday night. She was found unconscious
on the second floor, removed and revived outside. Units
operating were E1, E3, E9, L1, L2, B1, B2, S1, MS1. |

Chapel Hill House Fire

CHAPEL HILL - The Chapel Hill
Fire Department responded to a dwelling fire on Sunday
afternoon at 1742 hours. Three engines, a tower ladder and
command unit responded with sixteen firefighters to 407
Thornwood Road. On arrival crews found the remnants of a deck
on fire with flames entering the roof through the rear walls.
Additional resources were requested from the New Hope Fire
Department. The fire was contained in twenty minutes. Damage
estimates are for $120,000 to the house and $5,000 to the
deck. The suspected cause is careless smoking.
