FRI AUG 10
SUBMITTED BY KEVIN HALL. PHOTO COURTESY OFFICER ROBERT SHULER, MADISON PD

MADISON - The Madison Fire Department was dispatched at 0114 hours on Monday to this fully involved structure on the opposite corner from the fire station. Units arrived to find heavy fire conditions on all three floors with fire venting through the roof. This was the second fire at the 3,900+ square foot dwelling in six weeks.

Madison E-51 laid in a 5" supply from the corner and initiated the defensive attack with (3) 1-3/4" lines and a master stream. Mayodan E-61 arrived pulling (2) more 1-3/4" lines and a master stream, Mayodan E-62 laid in another 5" line from the north. Huntsville was third in, setting up to relay pump from a tanker shuttle by Stokesdale T-124. Jacob's Creek responded with additional manpower to the scene. Within 20-30 minutes, air horns blasted an evacuation order due to imminent collapses on side A-second floor and side B-1st floor.

The fire was brought under control in approximately 2 hours and crews remained on scene until 09:29 sifting through the debris with the large debris being removed with a backhoe from Madison Public Works. Stokes-Rockingham and Northwest Rockingham took fill-in positions at Madison and Mayodan respectively. Rehab was provided by Rockingham County EMS and Madison Rescue.
