Firefighter Killed Saturday in Collision

MONROE - Fire officials with the Wesley Chapel Fire Department
in Union County have confirmed that one of their firefighters
was killed in an apparatus collision Saturday afternoon.
Todd W. Hage, 43, was driving Engine 261 to a fire alarm call at
a nearby elementary school. The call turned out to be false. The
engine rolled on Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road. A second engine
arrived at the scene moments after the crash, but Hage died at
the scene.

Swepsonville Deputy Chief Dies At Firehouse

SWEPSONVILLE - Swepsonville Deputy Chief Jerry Donley, age 46,
was found dead this morning at the fire station after working a
twenty-four hour shift.

Fully Involved Structure Fire

MADISON - The Madison Fire Department was dispatched at 0114 hours
on Monday to this fully involved structure on the opposite corner
from
the fire station. Units arrived to find heavy fire conditions on all
three floors with fire venting through the roof. This was the second
fire at the 3,900+ square foot dwelling in six weeks.
Madison E-51 laid in a 5" supply
from the corner and initiated the defensive attack with (3) 1-3/4"
lines and a master stream. Mayodan E-61 arrived pulling (2) more
1-3/4" lines and a master stream, Mayodan E-62 laid in another 5"
line from the north. Huntsville was third in, setting up to relay
pump from a tanker shuttle by Stokesdale T-124. Jacob's Creek
responded with additional manpower to the scene. Within 20-30
minutes, air horns blasted an evacuation order due to imminent
collapses on side A-second floor and side B-1st floor.
The fire was brought under control
in approximately 2 hours and crews remained on scene until 09:29
sifting through the debris with the large debris being removed
with a backhoe from Madison Public Works. Stokes-Rockingham and
Northwest Rockingham took fill-in positions at Madison and Mayodan
respectively. Rehab was provided by Rockingham County EMS and
Madison Rescue.

Tractor-Trailer Collision With Entrapment

BURKE COUNTY - George Hildebran Fire-Rescue responded to a MVC
involving a large truck on Highway 18 South with a possible
entrapment. The first arriving officer reported a Case Farms Chicken
truck overturned with the driver entrapped. After extrication, the
driver was transferred to an aero-medical chopper.

Rowan
County 911 began utilizing a new Computer Aided Dispatch System
on June 26. The center processes over 500 calls for service daily.
Due to particulars related to the software, some departments were
required to re-number their apparatus.

Structure Fire With Fatality

FRANKLIN COUNTY - On August 8, Bunn, Pilot and Hopkins were
dispatched to a structure fire with a report of a subject still
inside. First arriving crews knocked the fire down quickly. A
fatality was found on scene. Bunn E21, E28, E29; Pilot E72 S75;
Hopkins C1, K227, T22; Bunn Rescue T205, EMS202 and EMS4 responded.
