SUV Bends Bridge Steel

MECKLENBURG COUNTY - On Saturday, July 28, a Trail-Blazer on the
Interstate 485 loop near Mint Hill lost control and skidded,
eventually overturning and hitting a bridge abutment. The impact was
so great that the steel beams were bent on the bridge. The driver
and passenger self-extricated and were trauma patients. Mint Hill
Fire, Idlewild Fire, Medic, NCSHP, CMPD, Stallings and Matthews PD
responded.

Two Killed in Crash After Storm

JOHNSTON COUNTY -
50-210 Fire/EMS
responded to a collision involving a DOT asphalt tanker and Suzuki
Aero on NC Highway 210 Monday afternoon. The tanker driver was
ejected and the other victim was pinned. Both drivers died on scene.
The asphalt spilled and DOT brought in sand for containment and
removal. DOT and SHP Accident Re-Con are investigating.

Fully Involved House Fire

COLUMBUS COUNTY - Whiteville
Fire responded to a fully involved structure fire early Wednesday
morning. Upon arrival crews advanced three 1.75-inch handlines. Two
lines were used to attack the fire and one was to was used to
protect an exposure next to the house. The cause is still under
investigation. Two engines and a ladder with 10 personnel responded
from Whiteville. Brunswick Fire responded mutual aid and Whiteville
Police assisted with the hydrant connection.

GASTON COUNTY - The Agriculture Center Fire Department responded to
this dwelling fire on Old Dallas Road on July 22. Firefighters used
Ladder 61 to safely complete vertical ventilation.

Serious Motor Vehicle Collision on Highway

DAVIE COUNTY - Stations 12 (Advance), 19 (Cornatzer-Dulin) and 24
(Smith Grove) worked this collision on Friday, July 13th. Two
vehicles were involved and an aero-medical chopper was called for an
entrapped occupant.

Companies Hold "Safe County" Event

GUILFORD COUNTY -
The Pleasant Garden FD, Pinecroft-Sedgefield
FD, and Guilford County Emergency Services conducted fire prevention
programs at a regional event located at Pleasant Garden Elementary
School called "Safe County". This program is managed by the Guilford
County Sheriff's Department and coordinates with day cares and other
organizations that have summer camps. The fire prevention programs
included a tour/class in the new Pinecroft-Sedgefield Fire and Life
Safety Educational Trailer and a tour in and out of Pleasant Garden
Engine 3.

the joint conference of the North Carolina Association of Fire
