Lightning Fire Destroys House in Raleigh

RALEIGH -
Severe thunderstorms Tuesday night caused power outages and traffic accidents, and started fires in Wake County, including at a two-story residence at 2217 Lash Avenue. Engine 6 reported flames showing through through the roof on arrival about 9:33 p.m.

Crews faced fire on both floors, as well as in the basement and the attic. Companies operated in both offensive and defensive modes. The fire was reported under control at 11:23 p.m. Units on scene included E6, E9, E16, E14, L16, R7, BC3, Car 5, Air 8, E7, E18, L11, EMS 4, EMS 1, EMS 203.

House Fire in Davidson Blamed on Construction Crew

DAVIDSON - On Tuesday July 17, Davidson and Cornelius were dispatched to a house fire caused as a result of a construction crew cutting a gas line. Crews from Cornelius Rescue 4 and Davidson Engine 2 began suppression. After the garage became well involved, Command withdrew all companies and operations went defensive.

Additional companies included Mount Mourne E701, Huntersville Engine 1, Medic and the Fire Marshal's Office. Gilead and East Lincoln provided coverage.

Fire at Fast Food Restaurant

WHITEVILLE - The Whiteville Fire Department responded to a fire early Thursday morning at this Taco Bell restaurant. Crews found heavy smoke showing on arrival. Crews advanced a 1.75 inch attack line through the front door and found heavy fire near the drive-through window. Heavy damage was done to the kitchen area. Thirteen firefighters manning two engines and a ladder responded.

Durham Motel Burns.... Again

DURHAM -
Heavy fire was reported on arrival by crews at the old Days Inn at 5139 Redwood Road on Sunday afternoon about 1:00 p.m. The abandoned 119-room motel, which had burned twice before since January 2006, was located two miles from the nearest hydrant.

Two tanker shuttles were utilized, and supplied a pair of aerial streams. Redwood Road and the exit from Interstate 85 northbound were closed during the incident. The Red Mill Road exit from Interstate 85 was also closed, to assist crews at the water point. Durham, Orange, Wake, Granville and Person counties departments included: Redwood, Bethesda, Durham, Lebanon, Bahama, Parkwood, Creedmoor, Ceffo, Hillsborough, Moriah, and Durham Highway.
