GASTON
COUNTY - On May 29 at
0142 hours, Crowders Mountain and Union Road fire departments
responded to this structure fire on South York Highway in Gastonia.
Crews found heavy fire conditions on arrival. Exposure "B" was also
threatened. Crews stretched a 2.5 inch and two 1.75 inch lines to
the fire and exposure. This fire was contained in ten minutes.
One firefighter was transported with minor injuries when a porch
collapsed. This was the second fire on the same street within two
weeks. The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.

Commute Throw Into Tailspin

WAKE COUNTY - On Monday at 0713, Western Wake Fire Rescue Engine 196
and Truck 295 were dispatched to Interstate 40 and Wade Avenue for a
MVC with entrapment. While responding, Engine 196 requested Raleigh
Rescue 14 for mutual aid. WWFR arrived to find Wake EMS already on
scene of a three car collision with one fatality. Units finally
cleared at 1027. During the operation, westbound I-40 was shut down
and eastbound was shut down for a short period for the
investigation.
Agencies operating included Western Wake, Wake EMS, Raleigh Fire,
Cary Area EMS, NCSHO, Raleigh Police and Wake Sheriff's Office.

CHINQUAPIN
- On March 16, Chinquapin Fire, Lyman Fire and Duplin County EMS
responded to this MVC on Firehouse Road. The SUV struck a tree six
feet off the ground at over 55 mph. Two patients were extricated and
transported to Duplin General.

COUNTY - The Austin and
Traphill Volunteer Fire Departments conducted this live burn
training fire recently on a dwelling originally built in the 1880's.
The hose was remodeled during the 1950's.

Show Announced

SHELBY - On Saturday, June 9, area emergency services will converge
on the old Wal-Mart parking lot at 1730 East Dixon Boulevard.
Boiling Spring's Assistant Chief Kaleb Johnson's son Landyn, three,
has lukemia. Boiling Springs Rescue will host the First Annual
Landyn Johnson Emergency Apparatus Show inviting all surrounding
jurisdictions to participate. Trophies will be awarded in
several categories.

HOLLY SPRINGS - Another view from last Thursday's confined space
rescue/recovery operation in Holly Springs. We inadvertently omitted
North Carolina USAR Task Force 4 from the list of operating
agencies. They worked along with Task Force 8 with a total of 79
personnel for nearly nine hours. Holly Springs and Apex Public Works
also provided support with several pieces of heavy equipment.
