Cleveland Firefighter Killed in Motorcycle Crash

JOHNSTON
COUNTY - A Cleveland
Volunteer firefighter was killed in a single vehicle motorcycle
collision in Wake County on Wednesday. Christopher Eargle had been
with the CVFD for sixth months.
Visitation is Saturday, June 2 from 1500 to 1700 at the Cleveland
Fire Department, 9039 Cleveland Road, Clayton, NC 27520. The funeral
will be Sunday, June 3 at 1400 also at the fire department.
Fire Departments wishing to participate in the procession should
line up on Cleveland Fire Road by 1330 hours Sunday.

fire on Monday, May 28 on Kelston Place. Heavy fire conditions
extended to the roof.

DURHAM
- Durham fire crews found heavy smoke showing from the seventh floor
penthouse apartment in this converted building around 0430 hours
Thursday. Firefighters attacked the fire with a 1.75 inch line from
the hose cabinet. No injuries were reported, but the damage was
extensive.

GASTONIA - The Gastonia Fire
Department responded to this residential structure fire Thursday
morning at 1120 Baker Boulevard. The first due companies arrived
to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the
structure. A quick fire attack had the fire knocked down in a few
minutes.
The occupant was able to escape prior to the arrival of fire
companies. There were no injuries.

HOLLY SPRINGS - Emergency responders from Holly Springs, Apex,
Morrisville, Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill and Durham responded to a
confined space rescue in Holly Springs at a construction site on
Thursday. Crews from NC USAR Task Force 8 worked for nearly twelve
hours to recovery the body of a worker trapped in a cave-in. This
was the first non-weather incident deployment for the unit.
