HOT SHOT
MON MAY 21
SUBMITTED BY GUERRY BARBEE, CORNELIUS FIRE-RESCUE
MECKLENBURG COUNTY -
On
January 9, 2007 at 11:10 Cornelius Fire and Rescue was requested to
assist Davidson Fire with an overturned concrete truck and possible
pin in. While en route Med-Center Air was requested which brought
Cornelius Engine 4 to the scene.
Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal 1105 (Bostian) arrived on scene and
confirmed that the patient was pinned in. Davidson Engine 2 arrived
on scene and advised they had one overturned concrete truck with the
driver pinned in and that Davidson 9 (Fitzgerald) would be Command.
Rescue 4 arrived shortly afterward and began stabilizing the vehicle
using the Paratech rescue struts.
Once stabilization was complete the crew began extricating the
patient. The helicopter was cancelled allowing the crew from Engine
4 to assist with the extrication. The roof was flapped down and the
steering wheel was removed freeing the patient. The patient was
transported by Medic with serious injuries.
This was the first extrication call for the new Rescue 4. The new
Holmatro extrication tools proved to be worth every penny on their
first call. From January 6th to January 9th
in a period of approximately 96 hours Rescue 4 has responded to one
working commercial building fire, the Kings Point Marina fire, three
MVC’s, and this extrication. From January 6th to January 9th
Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue responded to twenty four calls. Rescue
4 has already proved to be a huge asset to the Cornelius-Lemley Fire
and Rescue Department in its first week of service.
