Pender Complex Fire

PENDER COUNTY - Pictures from two fires that became the "East Pender
Complex Fire." The fire began on April 23 and consumed roughly 1,200
acres, at one point burning at a rate of 500 acres per hour. A
second fire started on April 25 behind new construction at a county
water tower behind the NCFS lookout tower on Highway 17 near
Hampstead.

BLADEN COUNTY - Fire and
Rescue crews worked for nearly two hours extricating the patient in
this MVC. The passenger side of the vehicle clipped a power pole
then overturned causing the patient to be partially ejected. The
patient was pinned inside and outside of the vehicle. Aero-medical
from New Hanover Medical Center transported the patient. Units
responding were Elizabethtown Fire, Bladen County EMS, Elizabethtown
Rescue and NCSHP.

UNION COUNTY - During January, 35 firefighters from throughout Union
County attended a twenty-hour Advanced Bus Extrication Technician
course held at the Beaver Lane VFD in Marshville. Instructors
included Trey Smith, Dale Cuff and Wike Graham of the Charlotte Fire

ROWAN COUNTY - RRVFD responded to this structure and RV fire
Tuesday. The fire in the RV and attic were quickly knocked down
with mutual aid from Granite Quarry and Rockwell City.

WAKE COUNTY - On Saturday, May 12 2007, as a line of severe
thunderstorms moved through northwestern Wake County, the Durham
Highway Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on
Springdale Drive. Units arrived on scene to find lightning had
struck the roof near the chimney causing a fire in Division 2 near
the A-D corner and causing the attic to become completely involved.
Crews stretched one 1.5-inch line for attack in Division 2 and a
2-inch line to the attic for suppression. Vertical ventilation was
utilized and the fire was brought under control quickly. An 1.5-inch
line using compressed air foam system was used during overhaul
efforts.
Firefighter Keith Miolla rescued the family dog from under a bed in
Division 2 during suppression efforts. Units included: DHFD E4, E1,
Raleigh Ladder 23, Falls E211, Bay Leaf E121, E361, Wake Forest
Ladder 65, Western Wake E196, Six Forks EMS, Wake County EMS 205.
