A
note to FireNews.net readers:
We hope that you have noticed a return to our regular updating
of FireNews. The past few months have been tough, as I have been
out of the country since January working on a large project. As
the work gained momentum, my free time to dedicate to FireNews
became very limited. After a little rest, the updating and all
of the regular features will be returning to normal. Thanks for
your patience!

BENSON -
An
open house was held at the
Benson Fire Department Sunday afternoon, April 22, when the town
accepted a check for $1.4 million.
Pictured are are Benson Assistant Chief Troy Byrd, his brother Chief
Anthony Byrd and Benson Mayor Jerry McLamb.
Chief Anthony Byrd said the new facility was made
possible with a $1.3 million low interest loan and a $100,000 grant
from USDA Rural Development combined with $20,000 from the
Benson Fire Department.
The funds were used to construct a 6 bay fire station with a
decontamination and equipment area. A building was renovated to
accommodate administrative offices, training areas and quarters for
fire and emergency personnel.
"As the town has grown, our needs as a fire department have grown
such that we were unable to accommodate all of our equipment.
Through the cooperation of many agencies, we were able to fulfill
our needs and enjoy a very nice fire station," Chief Byrd said.
