GASTONIA - At 1245 today,
the Gastonia Fire Department responded to a fire in one of four
air-handling units on top of the Gaston County Jail. Units arrived to
find heavy smoke showing from the roof. Firefighters quickly pulled
lines to the roof and extinguished the fire. No injuries were
reported, and no prisoners were evacuated. Damage estimates are over
$125,000.

CHARLOTTE - The Charlotte
Fire Investigation Task Force completed their on scene investigation
at two vacant homes that were struck by fire early Monday morning.
Fire Investigators determined that both fires were intentionally set
and similarities were identified. However, investigators will not be
releasing any specific details.
The first fire was reported to the Charlotte Fire Department at 2:49
am Monday at 2711 Chilton Place. This fire resulted in no injuries
and damage estimates by fire officials are estimated to be $200,000.
At 6:22 am, neighbors across the street from 2700 Sharon Rd called
911 when they saw smoke pouring out of the 2-story vacant home that
was under going renovations. A Charlotte Firefighter received minor
injuries while working on the second floor of this burning home. He
was taken to an area hospital for treatment and has been released to
recover at home. Damage estimates to the home on Sharon Rd were
estimated at $50,000.

PENDER COUNTY - Eddie King, Pender County Emergency Management
Director, said the fire began around 1250 hours in the area behind
the Topsail Fire Tower on US 17 near NC 210 near Surf City. The fire
spread to the Holly Shelter Game Land, which includes 49,000 acres.
Because of the foliage - sandridge, bay and pocosin - officials were
worried that the fire would spread faster. The foliage would cause
the fire to burn in the trees and brush and along the ground.
Ten tractors, four planes and a helicopter helped fight the fire.

  Two
Structure Fires in Twelve Hours For Northern Wake Crews

WAKE FOREST - Northern Wake crews were kept busy Tuesday afternoon
and early Wednesday morning battling two fires. The fire Tuesday was
hampered by a large dwelling with a heavy fire load, lightweight
components and high winds.

HIGH POINT - HPFD units responded to a report of a dust collector
fire at a wood flooring manufacturer last Thursday afternoon.
Battalion Chief 2 arrived to find smoke and fire showing from one of
the collectors. The collector was equipped with sprinklers which
fortunately held the fire in check. Two 1.75" lines were deployed
for extinguishment.
Units
responding:
Engines 1, 6, 9, 3, 12, Ladders 2 and 13, Squad 4, Air 2 and
Battalions 1 and 2.
