RALEIGH - The potential for catastrophe was great Tuesday morning
when a fully-loaded gas tanker rolled away from a Glenwood Avenue
service station, crossed the major roadway and its concrete median,
and struck the front door of a drugstore. The tanker was unmanned and
the drugstore was closed. With no gasoline leaking from the
trailer, crews initially attended to the tractor's ruptured fuel
tanks. Raleigh Fire Department units including a haz-mat team stayed
on scene through the morning as the product was off-loaded before
the truck was removed from the building. Note the "drive-thru" sign.

INCIDENT REPORT
THU MAR 29
SUBMITTED BY CHIEF JERRY SWIFT
WAKE FOREST - On March 29th at approximately 12:15 p.m., Wake Forest and Rolesville
fire departments were dispatched to a house fire in the 5500 block of Orchard Oriole Trail. Wake Forest Engine 431 arrived
to find a two-story, 4,000 square-foot dwelling with heavy smoke conditions showing from the second floor. Captain Bo Medlin and his crew advanced a
1-3/4" hand line to the second floor and began fire suppression operations. Rolesville Firefighter Jacob Butler and Wake Forest Fire Chief Jerry Swift were assigned to conduct a primary search on the second floor to locate a victim
reportedly trapped at that location. While searching rooms on the left side of the
second floor hallway, Firefighter Butler located the victim in a master bathroom and summoned assistance. In dense smoke conditions,
Chief Swift and Firefighter Butler removed the victim from the floor
of a large walk-in closet off of the bathroom. At the top of the
stairwell, the victim was transferred to a fresh crew advancing up
the stairs. Once removed from the building, the victim was transported to a local hospital by Rolesville EMS.
The victim reportedly sustained critical injuries and was transferred to the Chapel Hill Burn Center.
The second floor of the structure sustained significant fire damage.
There were apparently no smoke detectors operating in the home. The fire is under investigation by the Wake County Fire Marshall’s Office.
