HORRY COUNTY, SC - Horry County
Fire Rescue was recently assisted by units from Calabash in
Brunswick County when a vehicle left the roadway and became
partially submerged in a swamp. Calabash responded with their
aerial, while crews on the ground completed the rescue over ladders.

ST GEORGES, GRENADA, WEST INDIES
- I am currently on assignment in the beautiful island nation of
Grenada in the West Indies, working on the
Cricket
World Cup project. While preparing the site (with compacted
volcanic rock), we got a helping hand wetting down the material from
the crew of Fire Response 1 from the St. Georges Fire Headquarters.
FR1 is a Scania/Carmichael rig from the United Kingdom. Most other
pumpers on the island are U.S. built E-One units.
Assisting at Queens Park were Firefighters Ishmail Alexander, Ardell
Lewis, Rudie Patrick and Fire Volunteer Francis. Firefighter Patrick
is holding up their newest acquisition for the fire hall: a
FireNews.net patch.

JOHNSTON COUNTY - Benson Fire and EMS responded to an overturned
pickup carrying two brothers and a friend that crashed less than
a mile from the nightclub they had been drinking at. One brother
was ejected and died on scene, another was ejected and was
airlifted from the scene by UNC AirCare.

YADKIN COUNTY - On March 3rd,
the West Yadkin Volunteer Fire Department conducted a live burn at a
dwelling that had been involved in a fire in December. Companies
were able to practice ventilation techniques before the burn.
Additional units from Buck Shoals and Lone Hickory also
participated.

GASTONIA -
The Gastonia Fire Department responded to
this motor vehicle incident Friday morning on West Franklin
Boulevard involving a pick-up truck that left the road and
struck a tree. Due to the size of the vehicle and what
appeared to be a high speed impact, an extend extrication was
needed. The two rear seat occupants were transported by ground
units, both front seat occupants were flown to Carolinas
Medical Center in Charlotte.

ASHEVILLE -
Skyland Fire-Rescue was dispatched at
0547 on Wednesday March 7th to 8 Toy Drive to a reported structure
fire. Upon arrival, Engine Company 21-2 and Rescue Company 21 found
a double wide mobile home with light smoke showing. Crews were met
in the yard by a male subject stating his mother was still inside
the house. Crews searched the structure and located the seat of the
fire in the front bedroom and a elderly female laying in the floor
near the doorway. Crews removed the victim and began ALS care until
BCEMS arrived.
MAMA helicopter air ambulance was called and flew the elderly female
to Mission Hospital with third degree burns over most of her body.
The male was transported by BCEMS to Mission Hospital with
approximately 40% burns. Fire damage was confined to the room of
origin, with smoke damage throughout. Fire Investigators have ruled
the fire accidental. The fire appears to have started from a shorted
lamp cord that was running underneath the bedpost. Apparatus
response was Skyland E2, E21, E3, R21, Ta21, Ta2, Chief 1, AFR
E4,L4, Mills River Ta1853, BCEMS # 5 and # 7, MAMA Air Ambulance
Helicopter.
