ST GEORGES, GRENADA, WEST INDIES - I am currently on assignment in the beautiful island nation of Grenada in the West Indies, working on the Cricket World Cup project. While preparing the site (with compacted volcanic rock), we got a helping hand wetting down the material from the crew of Fire Response 1 from the St. Georges Fire Headquarters. FR1 is a Scania/Carmichael rig from the United Kingdom. Most other pumpers on the island are U.S. built E-One units.

Assisting at Queens Park were Firefighters Ishmail Alexander, Ardell Lewis, Rudie Patrick and Fire Volunteer Francis. Firefighter Patrick is holding up their newest acquisition for the fire hall: a FireNews.net patch.

MON MAR 05
SUBMITTED BY JIM LANDIS, GASTONIA FIRE DEPARTMENT
GASTONIA - The Gastonia Fire Department responded to this motor vehicle incident Friday morning on West Franklin Boulevard involving a pick-up truck that left the road and struck a tree. Due to the size of the vehicle and what appeared to be a high speed impact, an extend extrication was needed. The two rear seat occupants were transported by ground units, both front seat occupants were flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

HOT SHOT
FRI MAR 09
SUBMITTED BY BATTALION CHIEF RICK WOOD, SKYLAND FIRE-RESCUE
ASHEVILLE - Skyland Fire-Rescue was dispatched at 0547 on Wednesday March 7th to 8 Toy Drive to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, Engine Company 21-2 and Rescue Company 21 found a double wide mobile home with light smoke showing. Crews were met in the yard by a male subject stating his mother was still inside the house. Crews searched the structure and located the seat of the fire in the front bedroom and a elderly female laying in the floor near the doorway. Crews removed the victim and began ALS care until BCEMS arrived.

MAMA helicopter air ambulance was called and flew the elderly female to Mission Hospital with third degree burns over most of her body. The male was transported by BCEMS to Mission Hospital with approximately 40% burns. Fire damage was confined to the room of origin, with smoke damage throughout.
