Richmond County Structure Fire

RICHMOND COUNTY -
East Rockingham Fire Department was
dispatched to a structure fire at 176 Broadway Street around 4:30
am. Upon arrival the structure was fully involved. A defensive
approach was taken with one 1.75 inch line. A 2.5 inch supply line
from a hydrant nearby was the water supply. The fire was
extinguished in about two hours. The Richmond County Sheriffs
Office is handling the investigation. Cordova Fire & Rescue
supplied mutual aid to East Rockingham.

Gasoline Tanker Overturns, Driver Trapped

JOHNSTON COUNTY -
A Waccamaw Transport tanker fully loaded with 8,800 gallons of
gasoline overturned on Dunn Road near Branch Chapel Church Road,
north of Selma, around 7:30am Friday. Over two thousand gallons of
fuel spilled from a ruptured tank, according to Johnston Emergency
Services officials. The driver was pinned in the truck for more
than 90 minutes before he could be freed.
His injuries are not considered to be life threatening. Selma,
Thanksgiving, Corinth Holders, Bethany, Antioch, and Wilson's
Mills fire departments responded to the scene to conduct foam
operations as emergency crews worked to extricate McCauley.
Several tankers stood by until the remaining fuel could be
off-loaded onto another tanker. DOT and Environmental Services
cleanup crews arrived on the scene Friday to begin the lengthy
task of cleaning up the contaminated soil.

Fire Destroys Family Dollar Store

WALLACE - On Tuesday February,19,2008 at
08:45 hours, Duplin County Communications dispatched Wallace,
Teachey, Rose Hill and Duplin County EMS Medic 7 to 114 East
Southerland Street in Wallace for a commercial structure fire at
the Family Dollar Store. Wallac Car 1 arrived and upgraded the
call to a working fire with heavy smoke from the front of the
store and requested Northeast, Penderlea, and Burgaw to be
dispatched for manpower and ladder from Burgaw.
Wallace FD Engine 6 arrived and placed two 2.5-inch attack lines
in service to the front of the structure. When units from
Teachey, Rose Hill, and Northeast arrived deck monitors were
placed in service for defensive operations. After Burgaw arrived
with their ladder truck a special call was placed to Coastal
Carolina Concrete Pumping for a large concrete pumper.
Wallace Engine 6 supplied the concrete pumper with 5" LDH while Teachey Engine
1 supplied Burgaw Ladder 1 with 5" LDH. At one point five deck
monitors, a ladder, and the concrete pumper were flowing water
into the structure. Wallace Public Works turned on extra water
pumps to supply the six fire hydrants that were in use.

House Fire

FORSYTH COUNTY - Vienna,
Lewisville, Old Richmond, and Forsyth County Fire Departments
responded to a reported house fire on Lewisville-Vienna Road,
late Thursday morning. Upon arrival, Vienna Engine 120 found heavy a
fire showing from a split level residence. Units quickly knocked the
fire down after arrival. The occupants were not at home at the time
of the fire and were assisted by Red Cross. Forsyth County EMS also
responded for medical standby.

CATAWBA COUNTY - Long View Fire responded to a possible chimney
fire. Engine 22 arrived on the scene found a working residential
structure fire with 20% involvement. A control time was called about
30 minutes later.
The attack crew from Ladder 25 performed a search and found a small
dog that had been overcome by smoke. Oxygen was administered and the
dog was successfully revived. Long View was assisted by Icard,
Mountain View, Catawba County EMS and Hickory Rescue.

BOILING SPRINGS - Boiling Springs Rural and Boiling Springs City
firefighters participated in a live fire structural training session
on January 30th. Safety Officers ensured safe operations for all
concerned.
