Volunteer Firefighter Killed in Collision
Responding to Call

CONCORD -
Volunteer Firefighter James Earl Arthur was killed on Monday
while responding in his personal vehicle to a reported MVC with
entrapment.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 16th at 1400
hours.

ELIZABETHTOWN - The Elizabethtown Fire
Department responded for a reported structure fire on Johnson Road
with reported subjects trapped inside. On arrival at the fire on
Tuesday, Engine 554 found heavy fire showing from the A/B corner.
Crews entered from another door and conducted a search.
All searches were negative. Units remained on scene for three
hours. Elizabethtown was assisted by Dublin, Clarkton and
Bladenboro.

Wildfires Consume Acres and Acres in High
Winds

JOHNSTON COUNTY - North Carolina's Bravest
have been challenged with numerous wildland fires recently. Tested
by low humidity, high winds and a persistent drought, firefighters
have had to call on out-of-county resources to contain the largest
blaze.
This fire occurred on Polenta Road and was fought by companies
from Benson, Clayton, Cleveland, Elevation, Fairview, 50-210,
Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Raleigh, Smithfield, West Johnston and
Wilson's Mills. The North Carolina Forestry Service responded with
three plows and a helicopter.

Charlotte Apartment Fire Sends One to Hospital

CHARLOTTE - The Charlotte Fire Department
responded Wednesday to a reported two-story apartment on
fire in the 500 block of Hawthorne Lane. Arriving firefighters
found heavy smoke showing from a second floor unit. A male
occupant was able to escape and was treated by Medic.
During a secondary search, firefighters found Duke, a twelve
week-old puppy. Firefighters gave Duke oxygen from special pet
masks that were donated to CFD companies two years ago.

MVC Multiple System Trauma With Fly Out

NORTH WILKESBORO - The Cricket Fire Department, Wilkes Rescue and
the North Wilkesboro Fire Department were dispatched to a MVC where
a Jeep Grand Cherokee struck a tree driver's side first. The vehicle
then traveled down a 15-foot embankment trapping the driver and
resulting in multiple injuries. NWFD established a Landing Zone for
Charlotte's MedCenter Air.

Nursing Home Fire with Rescue

YADKINVILLE - The Yadkinville Fire Department responded on Sunday,
February 10th to 305 Harrison Street for a fire alarm at The
Piedmont Village Nursing Home. Automatic aid was provided by Forbush
and Courtney. The arriving Yadkinville Chief reported a working
fire. Crews went in service with two handlines. The fire was
controlled in twenty minutes. One civilian was rescued during
operations.

Multi-Vehicle Crash in Gastonia

GASTONIA -
The Gastonia Fire Department and Gaston EMS
responded to this collision in December. The driver of the vehicle
responsible for the crash first hit an ambulance transporting a
patient then hit another four to five other vehicles. A total of
nine patients were transported.
