HIGH POINT - Engines 7, 1 and 13, Ladder 13, Squad 7, Battalions 1 and 2 were dispatched to a reported apartment building fire on Suffolk Avenue. On arrival, units found heavy smoke showing from an apartment complex clubhouse. Two lines were used to squelch the fire. Further investigation showed the fire was set to hide a break-in.

RALEIGH - Four engine companies were assisted by a tanker and a brush truck from Garner early Friday afternoon, at a woods fire near the intersection of Hammond Road and Interstate 40. The fire was attacked from three fronts including from the deluge gun of an engine positioned on a bridge above the blaze. Raleigh Fire Academy recruits from the nearby Keeter Training Center were called to the scene to assist with loading hose.

LINCOLNTON - On February 12 at approximately 1000 hours, fire departments from Lincolnton and Boger City were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a local motel. Upon arrival, Engine 1 from Lincolnton reported fire showing from a second story window on the A-side, along with heavy smoke. Attack crews made a quick knockdown while other crews were performing search operations along with ventilation.

The majority of fire damage was contained to two individual rooms and the attic area, although 16 rooms did sustain smoke damage. The fire reportedly started from a candle left burning in one of the rooms. Units that responded were Engine 1, Ladder 1, Engine 41, Squad 46, Car 1, Car 4, Squad 107.

JOHNSTON COUNTY - The T.J. Smith family is all smiles before their house is burned down for firefighter training Saturday. The Smith's home suffered damages from a fire in December and will need to be rebuilt from the ground up. Elevation, Benson, Cleveland, Kenly, Wilson's Mills, Pine Level, West Johnston and Raleigh firefighters took part in the exercise.

CATAWBA COUNTY - The Long View Fire Department responded to a reported working residential structure fire recently. Engine 24 was first in and found 50% involvement and called for a second alarm and mutual aid from Hickory Fire E-3.

It took crews all most an hour to bring this unoccupied structure under control due to the roof collapsing about ten minutes into the fight. Units responding were: Engine 24, Engine 22, Ladder 25, Truck 21, Engine 3, C-200 and Catawba County EMS for standby. 
 

Man Arrested for Taking Two Fire Trucks for Joy-Rides

WAYNE COUNTY - A man who took two fire trucks from the Pricetown Fire Station in Wayne County, drove them around and then returned them to the fire department has been arrested. Shelton Douglas Southerland Jr., 29, of Seven Springs was arrested Tuesday, four days after the alleged incident.

Southerland is accused of causing $2,500 in damages to one of the trucks. $650 in tools was reportedly stolen from the other truck. More arrests in the case are pending. The investigation is being conducted by the Wayne and Lenoir County Sheriff’s Departments.
