WINSTON-SALEM - Crews responded to a building fire at
Suburban Propane on North Liberty Street on Tuesday. Arriving
companies found heavy fire throughout a building containing numerous propane cylinders ranging in size from 20
to 250 pounds. Two 55 gallons drums of
Methanol were also inside. As operations were being set-up, the relief valves on several tanks
started operating and the methanol drums failed causing a large fireball
through the roof. A defensive operation was conducted, cooling the
tanks until all product was consumed. One 250 pound tank was removed
from the building and flared off by Haz-Mat personnel. Units remained on scene for
five hours. There were no
injuries. Responding companies: E4, E9, E12, T1, T3, Rescue 1,
BC3, BC2.

BUNCOMBE COUNTY
- On Tuesday, Skyland Fire-Rescue responded to a reported MVA
involving a vehicle under a tractor-trailer on I-26 westbound near the Skyland exit.
Arriving units found a BMW pinned underneath the rear wheels of
the trailer and with a female driver trapped inside. The patient
was extricated in about 15 minutes and transported to Mission Hospital with only minor injuries. Units on the scene:
SFR Chief 1, Rescue 21, Engine 21, Medic 21, and BCEMS 5.

TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY - On January
19, Cedar Mountain Volunteer Fire-Rescue responded automatic aid
with Little River Volunteer Fire Department to a confirmed structure fire on Cascade Lake Road.
At the bottom of a steep hill, the brakes on a Cedar Mountain
tanker apparently failed. The driver noticed the brakes were not
working as he approached a "T" intersection. He tried pumping
the brakes with no success. The driver then tried turning the
apparatus to the left into a parking lot for a produce stand.
The truck tipped and rolled three-quarters over and landed on
the driver's side. Both firefighters were transported, one by
ground and the other by air. Both were released, one with no
injuries and the other with only cuts to his head, back, and
right hand.

WINSTON-SALEM - Crews responded to
a house fire on Goldfloss Street On
Wednesday. Engine 5 was first on scene and reported heavy fire and smoke
conditions from division "A" and "B". Engine 5's crews made an
aggressive interior attack to contain the fire in the front room
of the structure. Truck 2 assisted with search and ventilation
of the dwelling. Units on scene: E5, E4, E11, T2, R1, Air 1, BC
2. The Winston-Salem Fire Marshall's Office was also on scene to
assist with investigation.
