WILKES COUNTY – On Sunday morning, February 19 at 08:58 hours, Pleasant Hill and Ronda Fire Departments were dispatched to a dwelling fire at 1823 Luffman Road.
Engine 3301 arrived to report a will involved one-story house.
Additional tankers and manpower was requested from Austin and State Road.
Defensive operations began. Operations were complicated due to the fact that the main floor had already started to collapse when firefighters arrived.
After the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the body of the homeowner in the dwelling.
Approximately sixty firefighters operated for over five hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
An engine company from C. C. Camp in Surry County provided coverage at Pleasant Hill’s firehouse.
