FAYETTEVILLE - A fire at Miami Subs Grill on Tuesday morning has forced the restaurant to temporarily close until it can be cleaned up.
The fire was reported at 8:40 a.m. by a passer-by who saw smoke coming from the building at 552 N. McPherson Church Road at Skibo Road.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the building and the doors to the business locked, said Battalion Commander Tommy McMillan of the Fayetteville Fire Department.
The fire appeared to be confined to the rear of the building, McMillan said.
“We had a quick knock-down on the flames,” he said.
Business owner Jimmy Diamantopoulos stood in the parking lot, watching helplessly as firefighters attacked the fire and smoke.
Investigators from the Fayetteville Fire Department and the State Bureau of Investigation were still on the scene late Tuesday, said Battalion Commander Ron Lewis, a Fire Department spokesman.
Lewis said they are working to determine what started the fire.
The restaurant was closed for about nine months in 2010-11 while it underwent a significant renovation. It reopened in June last year.
