Charlotte Fire Department

Mecklenburg County
UPDATED: Fri Feb 03 at 08:15

CHARLOTTE – This is one of two Pierce Lance Squads that were delivered to the Charlotte Fire Department in the late 1980s. Pictured is Squad 2.

Prior to these heavy rescues non-walk-in bodies, the squads operated with vans. I’m not sure, but this unit may have responded from Station 12, and Squad 1 from Station 1.

The squads have been assigned two other series of rigs since these Pierces were in front line service.

The first replacements were Spartan/Saulsbury rigs, and most recently Spartan/SVIs. When the Spartan/Saulsbury rigs were received, they were renamed “Rescues” and assigned to Fire Stations 3 and 10 as Rescue 3 and Rescue 10.

UPDATE

(Thanks to Jay Adams, Charlotte Fire)

This unit was originally assigned to Fire Station 12, and then moved to Fire Station 10 when Ladder 10 was moved to Fire Station 13.

Originally designated Squad 2, then changed to Squad 10 sometime in the fall of 1993.

The Spartan/Saulsbury was placed into service in April 1999.

Squad 1 was then moved to Fire Station 14 and became Squad 14 in late 1993/early 1994. That unit was later moved to Fire Station 3.
