GASTON COUNTY – Firefighters from Crowder’s Mountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue and the Union Road Volunteer Fire Department battled a brush and woods fire Tuesday afternoon in Gaston County, North Carolina.
At 12:00 hours Tuesday afternoon, Crowder’s Mountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue received a dispatch of a reported woods fire at 534 Queens Road in Gaston County.
Gary Adair, Training Officer for Crowder’s Mountain Fire & Rescue was first on the scene and witnessed a large woods fire along with a storage building on fire.
Approximately 20 personnel from all departments overcame the high winds in the area to bring the woods and storage building fire’s under control in approximately 20 minutes.
No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
The fire burned an estimated 1 to 1.5 acres of land and destroyed the already collapsed storage building.
The blaze was initiated from a faulty wire run to the collapsed building according to the Gaston County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Nearby residents tried unsuccessfully to extinguish the fire before calling the fire department.
