LEXINGTON – Wynncom appeared to be a total loss after a fire Friday morning, according to emergency personnel on the scene.
The fire was reported at 6:16 a.m. at the business at 419 Salem Street, Lexington, according to a 911 shift supervisor. At 8:50 a.m., flames continued to be visible through the roof.
Firefighters initially took a defensive mode in trying to get the fire under control, said Capt. Mark Sink of the Lexington Police Department. The LPD was assisting the fire department to control traffic. Fifth and Salem streets and a portion of Winston Road near Hardee’s were blocked off.
“We would just ask that people try to stay clear of the area to give emergency personnel room to maneuver,” he said.
The cause of the fire was unknown.
“Once everything is out and cooled off enough, we’ll begin an investigation,” Sink said. “We’ll work hand in hand with the fire department in the investigation.”
No injuries had been reported as of 8:45 a.m. No surrounding structures had been damaged as firefighters worked to protect those, Sink said.
Davidson County Emergency Services, Lexington Utilities and the city street department were assisting firefighters and police.
Wynncom is a 20-year-old company with services including telephony systems, data systems, structured cabling, carrier services, web development and hosting, according to its website.
