ALBEMARLE – Stanly County Communications received numerous calls at approximately 17:17 hours on Sunday December 11th for a house on fire at 231 Concord Road.
The on-duty battalion chief, Tony Upchurch, arrived on the scene at 17:22 and reported heavy smoke showing from the house.
Battalion Chief Upchurch quickly requested all off-duty Albemarle firefighters to respond to the scene due to the amount of smoke and flames showing from the house.
Due to the large amount of fire inside the residence, the fire was brought under control from the exterior of the house.
The fire caused extensive damage throughout the occupied portion of the residence as well as the attic.
Once the fire was under control units remained on the scene to be sure the fire was totally extinguished.
Fire Marshal Taylor, assisted by on scene personnel, conducted the fire investigation. He was able to determine the fire began from a pot of cooking grease that had been left on the stove unattended. Please be reminded never to leave items cooking on the stove unattended.

Off duty personnel were requested to the scene by the Incident Commander. Ten members of the department responded off duty.
