GASTONIA – The Gastonia Fire Department responded to the intersection of North Chester and New Way shortly after lunch on Tuesday for a reported acid leaking from a 55 gallon drum in the back of a Road Way Tractor trailer.
The driver said as he turned off Interstate 85, he heard the drum over-turn. He pulled the truck off the side of the road to check it and determined it had a small leak of sulfuric acid solution.
The Gastonia Fire Department Hazmat team responded and packaged the container in an over-pack drum to contain the leak and so it could be safely transported.
The over-pack drum was sealed and a hazmat clean up company removed it to a safer location.
