NASH COUNTY – Shortly before 10:00 hours on October 21st, Nash County fire companies from Whitakers, Battleboro and Salem were dispatched to the 1300 block of Watson Seed Farm Road for a report of a structure fire.
The first in unit from Whitakers reported that they had heavy fire showing through the roof of a one story ranch type occupied dwelling.
Other Units were quickly arriving and went into service with 1.75-inch inch water lines.
Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack while searching for occupants. The searches turned up negative.
Firefighters were able to rescue a small dog from the burning home.

The fire was now racing through the roof area of the entire dwelling and fire conditions started to deteriorate forcing firefighters to withdraw and make an exterior attack.
It took them more than 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. No reported injuries. The occupants were not at home at the time of the fire. Firefighters remained on the scene for a few hours overhauling and extinguishing hot spots.
The blaze is being investigated by the Nash County Fire Marshal’s office.
